REFLECTIONS ON THE ROLE OF THE PARENTS - He knows that the music will contribute to develop
his son's
talent: memory, concentration, coordination, ear and taste are all necessary
for listening and playing. The good manners, the spirit of group, the
attitude to cooperation will be increased by the orchestra experience and the public concerts.
- He knows that if there are other children in family, also these
ones will want to play. He will cheer up thinking that for the second and next times everything
is easier.
- If the son is not able to go
on with
his studies, he won't make a tragedy. He helps the teacher to understand when he is in
difficulty. He makes sure that the study of the instrument is not yet a torment for him.
So he doesn't wants he'll become a soloist at all costs. He is happy he learns to love the music and practise it at his best
level. He knows that this depends mostly by his parent's care.
- He pays attention to the fact
that also the other parent is pleased with the initiative, and is sensitive to the problems
of the study at home, even if he does not directly participate.
- He creates
around the child an environment where the music is heard often and naturally.
- He owns a
hi-fi system, he get his son a good recording and listening device.
- He is available to attend the school
alone for some time, observing his child's schoolmates during their work, to become
acquainted of the task which are required to him.
- He reads
about what the Suzuki method
is concerned.
- He follows the course for parents organized by the
centre:
- Learns to recognize the musical notes and their value, whether he does not
know them yet.
- He studies with the son the same instrument for a few months. - One or twice
a week he takes him to the lesson and to all the orchestral and group
rehearsals.
- He
is always present to the lessons. He keeps aside and intervenes when the teacher requires it.
- He dedicates half an hour every day to the study of the instrument with the child.
- He obtains that every day the son listens to the tape with the
pieces of course.
- In the study at
- He supports the organization of meetings with other pupils of the
centre at home, so that they can play music together.
- He allows the son
to take part and performs during public concerts.
- He knows that
at the age of eight his son will start attending the musical camping in Cascine
in Ivrea.
- Studying the music is as important as going to school: the child will have to have the
feeling of consciousness. He will have the son exercised with the same promptness which he has
for his homework.
- He will help the child organize
his own study, formulating a precise timetable of work for every day of the
week. This is an act of important discipline.
- He will
allow him to watch few television: by the way he will listen much bad music.
